How the free trial works
Updated 23 June 2026
A free trial lets you use everything a paid plan offers before you pay for it. On Nippy, new accounts can try any paid plan free for 7 days: you choose a plan, start checkout, and enter a card on Stripe's secure hosted page — the card is needed to begin, but nothing is charged while the trial runs. During those 7 days you get the plan in full: bigger sites, password protection, custom domains with automatic HTTPS, cookie-free visitor analytics, and the small banner removed. When the 7 days end, the trial converts to a paid subscription automatically and the card is charged for the first period — unless you cancel before then, in which case the trial simply ends and you pay nothing. Cancelling takes one click in billing settings, and removing your card during the trial cancels the subscription too. The free trial is available once per account, so it is offered on your first subscription rather than every time you re-subscribe. Prefer not to enter a card at all? The free plan needs none and never expires, so you can publish a site today and upgrade whenever you are ready.
Step by step
- 1
Choose a paid plan
From the pricing page or your billing settings, pick the paid plan you want and select “Start free trial”. New accounts that have not subscribed before are offered the 7-day trial automatically.
- 2
Add your card on secure checkout
You are taken to Stripe's hosted checkout to enter a card. The details go straight to Stripe and never touch our servers; the card confirms the account and is kept on file, but it is not charged to begin the trial.
- 3
Use the full plan for 7 days
As soon as checkout completes, the plan is active with every feature unlocked — custom domains, password protection, visitor analytics and the banner removed — for the whole trial.
- 4
Cancel before it ends, or let it convert
Open billing settings any time to see when the trial ends. Cancel before that date and you are not charged; do nothing and the trial converts to a paid subscription, charging your card for the first period.
Common questions
Do I need a card to start the free trial?
Yes — a card is collected up front on Stripe's secure checkout to begin a trial, and it is not charged during the trial. If you would rather not enter a card, the free plan needs none and never expires.
Will I be charged during the trial?
No. Nothing is charged while the 7 days run. Your card is charged for the first period only when the trial ends, and only if you have not cancelled before then.
How do I cancel during the trial?
Open billing settings and cancel in one click before the trial ends — you are not charged. Removing your card during the trial also cancels the subscription.
Can I get the free trial more than once?
The trial is available once per account, on your first subscription. Cancelling and subscribing again later starts immediately as a paid plan, without another trial.
What happens to my sites if I do not continue?
Nothing is deleted. If a trial ends without converting, the account returns to the free plan; sites over the free limits are paused, not removed, and come back if you upgrade again.
