Nippy vs SwissTransfer

Thirty days is good. No expiry is better.

SwissTransfer is the easiest transfer service to recommend: free, up to 50 GB per transfer, no account needed, expiry configurable up to 30 days, optional passwords and download limits, run and funded by Swiss host Infomaniak (all as of June 2026). If the job is moving big files from one place to another once, use it — genuinely.

Nippy exists for the other job, the one a transfer can’t do: shares that present and persist. A folder of photos becomes a gallery with thumbnails, a lightbox and original-quality zip downloads; documents become a tidy download page; a website is hosted as a website — at an address like yours.nippy.site that keeps working until you take it down, where dropping in new files updates the same link everyone already has. The free plan covers one small site (25 MB); paid plans add the space real galleries need, passwords, custom domains and cookie-free analytics.

The crossover question is simple: will anyone open this link in week five? A wedding gallery, a portfolio, a client delivery — yes, so host it. A 40 GB video master heading to an editor — no, so SwissTransfer it.

Which one?

An honest fork in the road.

Choose Nippy when…

  • The link must outlive 30 days — galleries, portfolios, CVs, event pages
  • Presentation matters: a browsable gallery, not a parcel to unzip
  • You’ll update the share later and want the same link to stay current
  • You want the share at your own domain (paid plans)

Choose SwissTransfer when…

  • You’re moving tens of gigabytes once — 50 GB free is unmatched
  • You don’t want any account, even a passwordless one
  • Expiry is a feature: the files should disappear after handoff

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Is SwissTransfer really free — what’s the catch?

It is genuinely free (as of June 2026): Infomaniak funds it as a showcase for its paid hosting products. The “catch” is only that it’s a transfer service — links expire within 30 days and nothing is presented or hosted.

Can Nippy send 50 GB like SwissTransfer?

No — and it doesn’t try to. Nippy is hosting: paid plans add the space galleries and client work need, but for bulk one-off transfers of raw footage, SwissTransfer is the right tool.

What happens when a SwissTransfer link expires?

The files are gone and a new transfer is needed. A hosted page never hits that wall — the address keeps working, and updating the files updates the page.

Both have passwords — what’s the difference?

SwissTransfer sets a password per transfer; on Nippy a password protects the whole site (paid plans), and changing it instantly signs out anyone who used the old one.

Which is better for sending photos?

For browsing — a gallery link: thumbnails, lightbox, downloads at original quality, no countdown. For raw delivery of a huge shoot to one person, the 50 GB transfer wins.
